Description:
During the so-called "Age of Anxiety" of the 1920s and 1930s, between the two world wars, young people found ways to enjoy life through dance. Jazz and tango rhythms were very popular at this time, and Kuchenek's opera "Johnny Plays," which was entirely based on jazz, was much admired by the public, but it was also known as a pioneering work of decadent music that was considered problematic and was even rejected by the Nazi party followers. This series includes jazz, foxtrot (dance to ragtime), and shimmy (shoulder shaking dance to jazz), which fascinated people during this period. The first album includes dance pieces based on melodies taken from the aforementioned "Johnny Plays," as well as works by Austrian and Czech composers such as Eisler and Martinů. This valuable collection includes many world premiere recordings of works performed by the virtuoso conductor, Mr. Wallisch. Naxos Japan
