The Ensemble of the Boston Festival of Ancient Music is highly acclaimed around the world for its recordings of baroque operas, especially French operas, and this time they have recorded an opera by Christoph Graupner, a composer of the German baroque period. This "Antiochus and Stratonica" is an episode from the "Heroic Biography" of Plutarch, the supreme priest of Delphoi, which is known to have been used by the painter Angle as a subject. Based on the historical fact that Antiochus (Antiochus), son of Seleucus, successor of Alexander the Great, falls in love with his own stepmother, Stratonica (Stratonike), and wishes to die, the story not only features magicians and spirits, but also includes Antiochus' brother-in-law Demetrius and the Persian The story is also a love triangle between Demetrius, brother-in-law of Antiochus, and Miltenia, princess of Persia, and his wife Elenia, and ends with a happy ending. Graupner has prepared a colorful sound for strings and bass with three recorders and four oboes to add color to this fantastical work. Christian Imler, Hana Vladiková, Im Sunhee, and other talented singers provide excellent singing. Naxos Japan
