Description:

[Panorama Series: Semi-New Pressings / Encore Pressings] "Panorama" is a series for beginners of classical music that compiles masterpieces of classical music by composer in two-disc sets using Deutsche Grammophon and Decca sound sources. With the exception of a few operas and other works, there are no fade-outs or movement excerpts, and the series is based on the recording of all the movements of a single work. The performances are all masterpieces that can be recommended with confidence. An encore pressing of 40 selected titles. Mendelssohn's works in a wide variety of genres are collected on two CDs. The Violin Concerto is a romantic performance by Mutter at the age of 17, and this is the only recording of this work by Karajan, along with "Italia". Barenboim's performance of the four pieces from the "Silent Songs" is rich in emotion. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a well-established recording conducted by Kubelík. The octet by the Academy Chamber Ensemble is recorded on the original Philips disc. [Performed by] Anne-Sophie Mutter (violin) (2), Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra/Conductor: Herbert von Karajan (1-3), Daniel Barenboim (piano) (4), Edith Mathis (soprano), Ursula Beese (alto), Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra Orchestra and Chorus/Conductor: Raphael Kubelik (5), Academy Chamber Ensemble (6) Recordings: January 1971 (1, 3), September 1980 (2) Berlin, June 1973 Paris & December 1973 London (4), November 1964 Munich (5), December 1978 (6)
