Arturo Toscanini, NBC Symphony Orchestra
Description:
A sublime spirit built up in a single breath, a powerful interpretation of Beethoven ablaze! The Toscanini soundtrack, rare in TAHRA, has been remastered and reissued by ALTUS, bringing back the one-day concert in its entirety with new sound quality. This is a live performance from November 8, 1952. Beethoven's Beethoven No. 8 was recorded two days before the RCA recording. The performance was a sublime construction of the spirit, and No. 8 rang out with the presence of a "Hero" or "Destiny". There were some defects due to the live performance, but they seemed to have ignited Toscanini's fire, and the tension grew stronger and stronger. In the finale, Toscanini's signature octave raising of certain phrases appeared, and the audience was treated to a one-of-a-kind, intense performance. The music from operas, which Toscanini specialized in along with symphonic works, is also splendid. Both Wagner and Verdi are tight and roaring, full of energy and fulfillment. King International
