Brahms (1833-1897)
Description:
The Mariani Piano Quartet is now on Audax!" A dashing portrayal of the friendship between Brahms and Gernsheim in the age of "social distance"! Japanese commentary included! The Mariani Piano Quartet, which has recorded the album "Idee Fixe" (Vol.1:GWK146/Vol.2:GWK138) exploring the piano quartets of Faure and Enescu, has released a new recording by Johannes Plamzoller's own label, Audax! The quartet has been in the repertoire since the beginning of their career. Faced with the challenge of finding a way to record Brahms' piano quartets, which have been in their repertoire since the beginning and which they have performed frequently, the quartet looked for inspiration in Brahms' life and in his environment, and found it in the composer Friedrich Gernsheim. Brahms and Gernsheim first met in 1862 at a music festival in Cologne, and from 1868 onward they became better acquainted with each other, especially the German Requiem, a key element in their lifelong friendship, as Gernsheim repeatedly performed the work as conductor. The German Requiem, in particular, became an important element in their lifelong friendship, as Gernsheim repeatedly performed the work as conductor.Shedding light on their friendship, a long-term project to record their entire piano quartet is underway. While the pandemic delayed the release for a year, 2020 offers an opportunity to ponder the idea of human distance and immerse oneself in their friendship, which is largely forgotten today. Expect a wonderful discovery of Gernsheim's piano quartets, written in the imposing Romantic style and always skillfully balancing exhilaration and depth through clever orchestration. The Mariani Piano Quartet is a scholarship quartet of successful soloists, including Philippe Bonnen, who is a member of the Berlin Philharmonic. The quartet's refined and passionate performances have earned them a reputation for excellence. Since gaining attention at the 2011 German Music Competition, the quartet has been invited to perform regularly at prestigious music festivals and has appeared in major European chamber music venues, making its debut in February 2020 at the popular Elbphilharmonie Chamber Music Hall.
