Description:
Christopher Rawls (1949-2019), Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award-winning American composer, was born in Baltimore in 1949 and acquired a wide variety of musical genres, which led The New York Times to refer to him as "the most memorable music writer around." . His work is composed of many elements: wit, jokes, the sacred, and rock. This album includes three of his works, including "Symphony No. 5," written in 2015. Symphony No. 5 was inspired by Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, which he heard as a child and was struck by. The slow movement of the "Supplication," reminiscent of the slow movements of Bruckner and Mahler, and the "Concerto for Orchestra," which gives each of the orchestra's players a showcase, are all works that bring out Lausz's individuality and make for a rewarding listening experience.
