Gal, Hans (1890-1987)
Description:
Hans Gall is a composer from Austria. Like other composers of Jewish descent, he left Europe with the rise of the Nazis and settled in England. While living a new life in Edinburgh, he remained a granddisciple of Brahms and continued to write classical works throughout his life, in the tradition of German late Romanticism. The works for viola on this album were written after his move to England, and all of them have lyrical melodies and rich harmonies in the late Romantic style, making full use of the sound of the viola. The world premiere recording of the "Concertante Suite" also offers the beautiful acoustics of the Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo. Naxos Japan
